Standing at the premises of Taj Mahal looking towards the other side of river Yamuna , one of my friend told me that Shah Jahan wanted to build another Taj Mahal just similer to the present mausoleum in black marble. What a marvel it would have been . World’s most beautiful monuments in contrasting colors, standing face to face with each other! If Shah Jahan was not deposed by his son Aurangzeb for the fear for him using all the treasure in construction of monuments and for the ambition of throne, we might have witnessed such wonder. But not to miss that concept of Black Taj –Mahal is considered a myth by some intellects.
No wonder Taj mahal is one of the wonder’s of the world, a look at it defines it all. Built in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble mausoleum is one of the universally recognized masterpieces of the world heritage. It is situated in Agra, Utter Pradesh, India, on the bank of river Yamuna.
It took Shah Jahan more than 20 years and finest architects and marbles across the world to build this beautiful structure,, no wonder it costed him more than 32 million rupees at that time. The architecture is magnificent , the garden, the scriptures , the designs , motifs speaks about the resplendent Mugal architecture.
Points to note
Taj Mahal remains open from sunrise to sunset (8 am to 5 pm), is closed on Fridays
Although Taj Mahal is the major attraction, do not miss Agra Fort only 3 kms away from Taj Mahal , a wonderful structure of Mugal era. Built by the great Akbar in 1565 AD , it showcases some of the most exquisite architecture of the Mughal Period. At one of the palace here Shah Jahan was kept captured by Aurangzeb, from here he could Taj Mahal, the epitome of Love
Do not miss nearby attractions like Fatehpur sikri, Buland Darwaza
